RSPCA Doggie Diaries; Week 49 - Rosie & Kaine

Little Rosie is a big dog in a tiny jack russell’s body. She has a huge personality and a lot of energy, I doubt it’s possible to wear this dog out. She’s not particularly bothered by other dogs and she doesn’t really listen to commands much at the moment but she’s obviously intelligent so will probably just need a little incentive and encouragement and A LOT of exercise!

Poor Kaine is still homeless, he really needs a good home soon, he’s become very depressed in the kennels and it’s hard to get him to come for a walk, though he enjoys himself once he’s out and about. He has some issues with mouthing and nipping and sometimes he attacks the bottom of your trousers when he gets too excited. He needs some training, with a firm but loving owner, he really is a sweet fantastic dog who is just a little lost.

RSPCA Doggie Diaries; Week 50 - Alfie & Max

Alfie is a big friendly giant. He looks like a big scary mastiff but he’s a real softie! He’s been well trained, he just needs to work a little on walking by your side as he’s so strong you don’t want him pulling you along. We’ve been working on getting him to walk properly and as you can see he’s doing extremely well and he loves to be told he’s doing good. He’s a lovely gentle boy who doesn’t always present himself well in his kennel, barking when you walk past but if you go up to the bars he stops barking and just wants to say hello, he gets on well with other dogs and after meeting them he sits quietly and doesn’t pay them much attention.

Max is a shy boy with a few trust issues with people, he’s very timid when he first meets you and barks at you but once you’ve shown him you won’t hurt him ad you’ve given him a lovely biscuit then he gets used to you, though he’s always a little wary. He needs someone who will show him lots of love and affection and get him to trust humans again, he’s very sweet and well behaved and he likes other dogs.

RSPCA Doggie Diaries; Week 48 - Kyra

Poor Kyra was found tied up outside the RSPCA gates so we don’t know her history. She has had a few problems since coming to the kennels, she has had some trust issues with humans and no one could get near her when she first came in and it was advised that she wear a mussel… but as you can see this must have just been fear and confusion with the stress of being left tied up then brought into a strange place, it must have been terrifying for her.

After only a couple of weeks she is now much more trusting and came bounding out to say hello even though she had never met us before.

She is so sweet and playful, she’s also very obedient so has obviously had some training in her life. She loves to play and she’s very happy and bouncy… an absolute pleasure!

Reg is an absolutely amazing Lurcher. He’s so friendly and bouncy! He wants to see everything and say hello to everyone. He does have a habit of jumping up to say hello but it’s just because he’s excited to meet new people.

He loves to play fetch and brings the ball back nicely for you. His chase instinct is quite high, he likes to chase squirrels and birds.

He is so loving, he would be a really loyal companion, he’s great fun and a pleasure to be with, we’re very glad to have made his acquaintance and we’re positively smitten, we have no doubt he’ll get a lovely new home very soon as he’s already had quite a lot of interest!

RSPCA Doggie Diaries; Week 46 - Sandy, Trixie & Puppies.

Sandy and Trixie… then the puppies! Double trouble as usual! All little loveable monsters!

Sandy and Trixie have been homeless for far too long now. They are both amazing and even though they’re related they’re like chalk and cheese. They’re both very intelligent and love learning tricks but have very different personalities. Sandy is very sweet and loves other dog A LOT and just wants to run around and play with them. Trixie is a little nosey nelly and always wants to be involved in everything you’re doing, she loves to do tricks for you for a treat but is a little hit and miss with other dogs, she likes them but plays a little too rough sometimes and if the other dog isn’t tolerant of rough play then it causes some trouble!

The puppies of course are growing fast and starting to become very different personalities too, one is much bouncier then the other and always wants your attention, she’s very sweet because she always wants a cuddle. The other is a little more independent and has already learnt how to sit on command… just about. They both love to play with other dogs and want to investigate everything, they both need lots of love and training but would be well worth it!

RSPCA Doggie Diaries; Week 45 - Keira

Keira is an absolutely amazing girl and a wonderful example of her breed. She’s a great big softie and loves a cuddle and playing with other dogs, she’s very well behaved and walks nicely on the lead.

She likes to have a good sniff around and make new friends, she gets excited and playful around other dogs just wants to run around with them.

Fabulous dog!

RSPCA Doggie Diaries; Week 43 - Dino

As always, Dino was great. I can’t believe he’s still not got a home! He’s just the most fantastic staffy, so much character, intelligence and so much love to give.

He’s getting better with other dogs every time we see him and this week he walked with our dog Ben again and ended up just completely ignoring him in the end!

RSPCA Doggie Diaries; Week 41 - Myra, Sandy & Puppies

This week we walked Myra and Sandy. Myra is a lovely 8 year old staffy, she’s very relaxed and loves cuddles, she likes other dogs and was very tolerant of Sandy bouncing around like a loon.

Unfortunately Sandy has been brought back to the shelter shortly after being re-homed, hopefully her next home will be permanent! They were both very well behaved and it was a lovely walk this week.

After walkies we took 2 boxer cross puppies into the compound to give them some play time, the little girls, who we’ve nicknamed Josie and Polly are absolute delights, plenty of energy (as usual with boxers) and lots of fun, they’re very responsive and intelligent, they love to play and they seem very confident trying new things. They’ll no doubt get new homes soon and I think they’ll make wonderful companions.

RSPCA Doggie Diaries; Week 39 - Dino

Unfortunately Dino is still at the shelter, he was supposed to be being transferred to another shelter to see if he had any luck finding a home somewhere different but everyone loves him so much here that nobody could bear to part with him. He has become settled in the kennels now and isn’t as stressed out as he used to be.

He is such a special dog and we have no idea why he hasn’t got a home yet!? He’s so intelligent and he loves people, even though he’s not keen on other dogs he can learn to tolerate calm dogs well on a walk and he’s easy to control on the lead is there is a confrontation as he’ll do anything for a biscuit!

We really enjoy walking him, he’s so much fun and he’s so funny with his silly antics and daft personality!

RSPCA Doggie Diaries; Week 37 - Bertie, Freddie & Foxy.

On saturday we took Bertie on his last walk with us as he went to his new home this weekend where he will be living with alpacas! We hope he has a great time and we know he’ll be a much loved member of the family, he really is a lovely boy.

Sunday we walked Foxy and Freddie, mother and son. Freddie is very bouncy and has lots of energy, he’s obviously intelligent and loves other dogs, he just needs a good run off the lead to wear him out. Foxy is a lovely lady, she enjoys cuddles and also has lots of energy, she’s a little more picky about other dogs but she got on well with all the dogs we saw on the walk.

RSPCA Doggie Diaries; Week 33 - Sandy & Trixie

Trixie has been at the shelter for a while now and was brought in because her owner couldn’t cope with all their dogs, unfortunately Trixie’s mother Sandy has now been brought in also. Sandy is in the same position Trixie was in when she first came to the shelter, very nervous and she gets scared of any sudden sounds or movements, she was very wary of us touching her at the start and she didn’t seem very happy to be out on the walk. By the end she trusted us a little more and she was having fun running and having a little fuss.
She gets on really well with other dogs and they seem to bring her out of her shell, she was also really good with two horses that passed us on the road.
Even though mother and daughter will probably have to be split again they are both great dogs, really sweet and will make great companions.
